Defra Minister visit

At the invitation of Rory Stewart MP, the new Secretary of State for Defra (Department of Environment, Food and Rural Affairs), the Rt Hon Owen Paterson MP, made Cumbria his first official visit since his appointment this week.  Among several meetings in the Penrith & the Border constituency, the Secretary of State came to meet party and business members at Cranstons Food Hall.  He delivered a rousing speech setting out his fresh agenda and took the opportunity to announce the freeing up of current planning restrictions to encourage the development of broadband communications, especially in rural areas.  He also introduced the Conservative candidate for Cumbria Police & Crime Commissioner, Richard Rhodes, and urged everyone to support him in his election - Polling day is 15th November
